Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
